Old Vinyl on a New-To-Us Turntable

Standing in the kitchen, listening to some George Harrison on the refurbished turntable, I told Matt that I was pleasantly more than satisfied with our listening experience. Don't get me wrong, I've been looking forward to listening to the familiar pops and hisses for weeks now, Kevin Mendenhall convinced Deirdre's Dad that Matt and I would be a good home for the old boy. Kevin retrieved and refurbished it a bit, adding some felt pads, changing something else important (Matt, help me out here), and on a sweaty hot day we picked up our prize, enjoying a happy hour while Deirdre nursed a summer cold. Two weeks later the new speakers arrive, replacing the crappy old speakers that, oddly enough disppeared in the basement... probably to be dug up in some archeological dig that will take place down there 1,000 years from now. Anyway, today was the day and after the initial breaking in by playing Elton John's Tiny Dancer, calling Deirdre to bear witness to the virgin launching, I had that euphoric feeling as I realized that our listening experience has been enriched in way that, I believe, will become our family tradition (an extension of Matt's family tradition) and one that Owen and his sibling(?!?) will one day come to cherish.
